Zanclognatha ??? - Zanclognatha

Zanclognatha ??? - Zanclognatha
Bowie, Prince George's County, Maryland, USA
June 7, 2014
Many of the species images under Zanclognatha don't seem to match the posted descriptions, so I've been trying identify specimens based solely on the descriptions. I'm not having much luck. Many of the images I've captured don't seem to quite match any of the descriptions exactly, and there seems to be much variation. Looking for some assistance in trying to make sense of these.

Thanks.

I agree with much of the comments. This is almost certainly cruralis or obscuripennis. The two species cannot be separated by photos. See comments here and here. The shape of the am. and st. lines taken together pretty much eliminate all other possibilities. Many or even most images placed under those two species may be correct but, because there are so many exceptions, IDs are uncertain. They should all be moved.

As for other species in this genus, there is a lot of new info and I am in the process of updating the Info pages and sorting out the images.

There are
most likely dozens of misidentified images under the Zanclognatha species pages. I recommend moving all Z. images to the genus page instead of attempting to identify them to species level.
