Velvet Mite? - Neomolgus littoralis

Velvet Mite? - Neomolgus littoralis
Burien, King County, Washington, USA
January 27, 2007
Size: 1.5mm
I was exploring the beach and found this little guy. It wasn't shiny, but looking at it on the computer screen, it doesn't really look velvety, either.
It was crawling on some concrete beach debris, moving fairly slowly.

bdellid mite
The ID is correct. This species is common on rocky beaches in many parts of the world. It is the largest species in the family Bdellidae.

Moved
Moved from Bdelloidea.

Neomulgus littoralis
I have identified this as Neomulgus littoralis per Seashore Life of the Northern Pacific Coast by Eugene N. Kozloff (1), page 121, plate 30.

Strange
I find no Web presence at all for this species.

I have some links
I put some internet links in a "guide page request" in the forum section.
I have found it under the "classification" part of "Animal Diversity Web"
http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/classification/Neomolgus_littoralis.html, as well as the following photo: http://www.beachwatchers.wsu.edu/ezidweb/animals/Neomolguslittoralis.htm.

Excellent!
I'll create a page and move it.

Thank you
Thank's for the page!
