Velvet Mite? - Neomolgus littoralis
Burien, King County, Washington, USA

Size: 1.5mm
I was exploring the beach and found this little guy. It wasn't shiny, but looking at it on the computer screen, it doesn't really look velvety, either.
It was crawling on some concrete beach debris, moving fairly slowly.

bdellid mite
The ID is correct. This species is common on rocky beaches in many parts of the world. It is the largest species in the family Bdellidae.

I have identified this as Neomulgus littoralis per Seashore Life of the Northern Pacific Coast by Eugene N. Kozloff (1), page 121, plate 30.
