Size: ca. 7/8 in. max.
Submitted on behalf of Dave Porter, AIA. Help with identification will be much appreciated. These are found indoors, crawling across floors and up walls and even on ceilings. Dave has seen these in his house and garage since 1987.

Hey Bob, I don't know how many species are in Florida, but I have one that looks like this known as Phereoeca walsinghami

Thanks, Dennis, for pointing in the right direction. As usual the taxonomy has changed since Hodges 1983. This was indeed known as P. walsinghami and also as the Plaster Bagworm Moth. Jeff Hollenbeck has a photo of an adult in the Guide here:

Looks Very Similar to Me -- I'd file them together....
... with the understanding, as pointed out in the Florida Featured Creatures page, that there are similar species and that they may be confused. It sounds like the Florida species could span the Gulf Coast States. The case coloration no doubt varies depending on the materials available to the larvae.
