A fast caterpillar - Oneida lunulalis

A fast caterpillar - Oneida lunulalis
Dallas, Paulding County, Georgia, USA
June 18, 2014
Size: about an inch
This caterpillar lives on a small Oak tree in my back yard. It is one a single specimen, but it lives in a sort of "tent made with it's silk & hides between 2 leaves if I get too close for it's comfort. It moves pretty fast for a caterpillar too...

Pyralidae
This is something in the family Pyralidae; I don't recognize the species. It would be good if you could put the leaf shelter, with the caterpillar inside, into a closed jar, and see if a moth comes out in a couple of weeks, and if so, then submit a photo of the moth alongside this larval photo. There is a good chance that someone would be able to identify the adult moth down to species. It would be very good if we could start getting associated larva/adult images for some of these pyralids. Good luck!

Went to the tree this afterno
Went to the tree this afternoon & the caterpillar is gone... I an attaching an image of it's "tent" like home which is still there.... I suspect that one of the predatory wasps got to it. There is a Carpenter Bee nest that a predator wasp took over & just yesterday I took an image of a number of small dead caterpillars ouside the nest (see 2nd image)

Pococera
A lot of these strongly head-patterned pyralids seem to be falling out into Pococera.
