Striped Emerald - Somatochlora
near Lindy Point Outlook at Blackwater Falls State Park near Davis, West Virginia, USA
September 3, 2011
As best as I can determine from a series of
pictures is that this was taken near a stream.
I thought maybe a Spiny Baskettail but
have little confidence in that.

(edited 6/29/14 to show correct name of park, and city)
(I'm also told photographer stayed at the Blackwater Falls
Lodge which is built at the top of one of the ridges in
the park - elevation of park is 3100 ft, or so wvdnr.gov says,
and trails taken were within walking distance of lodge.)

Just out of curiosity, are there other images that show this emerald from the side? That could help identify it to species based on the ovipositor shape, and shape of thoracic markings. This is a tough angle.
