Robber Fly? - Dioctria hyalipennis

Robber Fly? - Dioctria hyalipennis
Chassell, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
June 13, 2014
I think this is a species of robber fly. I took the picture at 2:00 p.m. next to a cemetery bordered by a second growth of
hardwood forest. There are maples, some Yellow Birch and a small stand of Hemlock with a cluster of Pink Ladyslippers growing
underneath one of the Hemlocks. The location is in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Lake Superior.
