Weevil - Sitophilus

Weevil - Sitophilus
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
January 28, 2007
Found in some moldy birdseed.

Moved
Moved from Granary Weevils.

OK
It has been moved back to genus.

Sitophilus
I agree with Boris. I've done plenty of dissections to distinguish between the species of Sitophilus and the marks on the elytra are not a species character. All Sitophilus on bug guide should be listed to genus only unless dissection of male genitalia has been done.

yes
Either rice weevil or corn weevil (Sitophilus zeamais). For discrimination, you´ll need to study genitalia.

regards, Boris

Thanks
Is it good enogh if I turn one over and take a clear picture? Thanks again for the ID.

Dissection is required since genitalia are internal
but you could move it to the genus page since the two possibilities are in the same genus.

I wonder if the two species are different SIZES (hint, hint).

Rice Weevil?

Yes, rice weevil
Spots on elytra are more distinct in rice weevil, and the pronotal pits do look round.

That settles it then.
Moving to species page.
