Size: approx. 1 1/4 inch
I found this on my porch stairs. I think it dropped in a storm from the pine tree. I also saw three of these at my neighbors. I think they were on a small oak. I can't find them now.

Wool sower gall
These are formed on white oak twigs by Callirhytis seminator, a small wasp. This is what they look like when they are fresh:

Fascinating. I wish I'd seen it when it was fresh. I'll have to do some reading and find out more. I put it in the bushes. I guess I'll have more next year.
