This larva does not necessarily belong in Alleculinae, though. Larvae of Tenebrionidae proper often look the same.

The larvae I seem to recall were *way* different. Only psychiatry can solve this mystery -- or perhaps another rearing experiment :-)

Expectation

Hi Jim,

why did you expect an Alleculinae? All larvae from this subfamily (I know at least) have a smooth surface and elongate, cylindrical bodies with conical tail without spines - to say in few words: they are "wireworms".

I "disremembered" :-) However, I have reared alleculines before and thought I recalled the larvae being different than you describe. Obviously I need to carefully record their development. (There's a possibility I already have but I need to fix the computer those images might be on.)
