This resembles a pathogenic fungus, as seen here.

More like lichen from a live oak
When I first spotted it, I thought it was a twig stuck to the screen. It was firmly attached when I went to remove it. It appears as if it collected the lichen and stuck it to its body for camouflage. Lots of twigs with lichen on the ground in the immediate area.
