Juvenile Two-Striped Walkingsticks - Anisomorpha buprestoides
Jupiter Ridge Natural Area, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
February 1, 2007
Size: ~3 cm (each)
I noticed there were no images of juveniles here on the site. These were found underneath fallen palmetto fronds. Adults have been found in this location as well.

Neat find, Tony
:-)

Thanks Jim,
It shows there really is year-round activity in South Florida. There certainly isn't much back here in MA in February:P

Yes and no.
You won't find insects sitting around on leaves and blooms waiting to be photographed but if you go ultrasupermacro, there are plenty of cold-weather critters available. If you bring debris indoors and examine it carefully, there are gobs of little arthropods in it. Bark stripping, rotten log hacking, and firewood splitting are ways to find photo subjects unless you insist on not interrupting their business. I collected a trashbag full of moss samples from a wooded area that kept me occupied for weeks. I still haven't posted images of all those finds.
