Borer in a lilac stem - Papaipema

Borer in a lilac stem - Papaipema
Princeton, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, USA
June 30, 2014
Size: .5 inches
This borer was found in one of my lilac stems today. I noticed a broken branch where this borer had weakened the stem and the wind bent it over. The stem was a small stem about 3/8" wide, it appears the borer was eating the spongy material in the very center of the stem. It had made a small hole about 1/8" in the stem. I'm familiar with the lilac borer Podosesia syringae, but this is smaller and darker colored. Any help with identification is greatly appreciated.
