Is this an Oblique Lined Tiger? Dozens on the sandy beach of the James River. Alas I hadnt taken my 'real' camera.

Hairy-necked
It's a Hairy-necked tiger beetle -- Cicindela hirticollis. The identifying mark is the front maculation in the shape of a "G".

Confusion
Hairy-necked is most often confused with the Bronzed. Once you've seen both it gets easier.
