yes, it looks like a Bembix
I would check this vs. Bembix americana comata Parker. I'll try to do so soon when I'm at work and can check specimens.

Nice image.
Lovely work as always:-) I might dispute that this is a male specimen, however. Looks like 'he' has a tarsal rake on the front tarsi.

 
I saw that tarsal rake,
briefly wondered in 'the back of my head', but was pretty tired when I submitted the photos. Thanks for pointing this out, Eric, and I think you're right.
