Carpet Beetle - Attagenus unicolor - male

Carpet Beetle - Attagenus unicolor - Male
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
February 9, 2007
Size: 4 mm
I recently discovered this Dermestid beetle in a dusty room. Well, actually it discovered me ... I was studying when it landed on my laptop and decided to navigate under the F11 key! A few frustrating minutes and a lot of F keys later, I used a pencil to chase the beetle out from under F1.
I finally managed to coax this restless little critter to stand still for a shot by offering it a tiny drop of water with a micropipette. Is this an Attagenus carpet beetle?

Moved
Moved from Attagenus. In Ontario, there is only one confirmed Attagenus species, with two subspecies unicolor and japonicus.

New species A. efonekeyi
Just kidding. It does resemble the Attagenus we have already, in size, coloration, and antennal shape. I'd place it there.

Hahahaha
A new species with an affinity for keyboards!
Thanks; I'll move both images to the genus page.
