These ants swarm in my yard when the females are getting ready to fly. I noticed this first picture is still winged and the head is smaller. I wonder if it is the male. The other picture is what I think is the female and has already shed it's wings. I noticed groups of small workers around several of the winged females and it appeared they were removing the wings. I have never noticed that behavior before.
