Yellow Planthopper - Japananus hyalinus

Yellow Planthopper - Japananus hyalinus
Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 6, 2014
Size: 3-4mm
I found this small planthopper on a CA native azalea in my backyard. For want of an official ID, I have dubbed it... the banana-stegosaurus planthopper. By the way, when I bumped the leaf it was on, I noticed it raised its spiked tail straight up -- perhaps a defense response?

Might be something in that neighborhood, at any rate.
