west sand island, mouth of the Columbia River, clatsop County, Oregon, USA

Size: 8mm long x 5mm wide
hundreds of these all over island, first noticed covering Cottonwood leaves

Calligrapha multipunctata 'bigsbyana' form -det. J.Gómez-Zurita
his comment: "very common in that part of the US. It is interesting that they were found in numbers on cottonwood (poplar?) leaves, since they are nearly always associated with another Salicaceae: several species of willow across North America."

Looks like something in the Calligrapha genus, in the Chrysomelidae.
