Wichita - residential neighborhood within a half mile of the Arkansas River, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA
September 14, 2005
Called "...rare and local in east, westward to Sumner and Butler counties" by Ely et al ("An annotated list of the butterflies of Kansas", 1986, by C. A. Ely, M. D. Schwilling and M. E. Rolfs, Fort Hays Studies: Third Series (Science) Number 7, Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas). This photo documents the species for Sedgwick County, which is just north of Sumner County, both lying along the western border of the range of the Harvester as shown, for example, in Brock and Kaufman's "Butterflies of North America."
