wild guess: Laphriinae

wild guess: Laphriinae
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
Size: est. 11 -12 mm
This highly active and well-armed pupa probably popped out of the same chunk of white-rotted aspen that another, larger one had wiggled out of a couple days earlier. Despite being considerably smaller and finer-bristled, I suspect this will turn out to be the same species as the first.

Photographed Feb. 12, 2007.
