Purple Globular Springtail - Dicyrtoma fusca

Purple Globular Springtail - Dicyrtoma fusca
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
February 17, 2007
Size: 2mm
I found this underneath a rotten wooden flowerpot under our cherry tree. It was with others that I feel are Dicyrtomina ornata...could this just be an elderly one? I know the Orche*sella cin*cta get darker with age...

Moved

Not Dicyrtomina but Dicyrtoma, possibly fusca
Dicyrtomina cf. ornata has a typical lightly coloured middorsal stripe at its abdomen. Also in the elder specimens this stripe remains distinctly visible. In the closely related genus Dicyrtoma there are several purple coloured species. The most common one = Dicyrtoma fusca. Typical for D. fusca are the white feet. The picture suggests that the feet of this specimen are white, but the feet are not good enough in focus to be sure.
Look out for such purple specimens that lack a light middorsal stripe.

I'll see if I can get more shots
Theday I took this photo, it was sunny and warm...now we're getting a cold front that should hang around for a while. I'll see what I can do between rain drops!

Dicyrtoma fusca
Your 2 additional pictures confirm clearly the white feet. Thanx.
