As a general thought... for syrphid identification (since you have the pinned specimen in hand), a side view showing facial profile and the hind femur (including any plates, ridges, teeth, etc) is extremely helpful, particularly for species-level ID, but even for distinguishing between some distantly related but convergent groups such as Merodon and Mallota.

(if you do have side shots of this fly, I can probably get you a better ID)
