Acanalonia nymph - Acanalonia bivittata

Acanalonia nymph - Acanalonia bivittata
Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
July 14, 2014
Found on milkweed next to a pond. There seems to be some "wool" attached to the rear of its abdomen.

Looks like
A. bivittata nymph. Nymphs in this genus can be quite the challenge. However, this nymph has a flat front of the head, so that suggest bivittata rather than conica

Thanks, Kyle.

Acanalonia nymph…
The "wool" is a type of waxy secretion that supposedly helps the nymph avoid predation.

See reference here.

Thanks, Ross.
I had thought it might be a hopper nymph. Thanks very much.
