Chrysops - Chrysops ater - female

Chrysops - Chrysops ater - Female
N47.625976 W52.669538 (WGS84), Logy Bay, Northeast Avalon, Newfoundland/Labrador, Canada
July 14, 2014
Size: 9 mm nose to body rear
Landed on my left hand. I took the photos with my right hand. It stung a bit as it was drawing my blood. The 'tube' that it used to suck the blood is clearly visible in a couple of the photos. Does that 'tube' have an actual name? I'm saying it's female because it was drawing blood. Is that correct?
