Not a webworm? - Acronicta oblinita

Not a webworm? - Acronicta oblinita
Browns Mills, near mirror lake., Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
July 15, 2014
Size: 2-3 inches
Here's a bunch of caterpillars I found eating one of the trees I have outside in the backyard. I found it in the early morning around 8 am. The all have yellow stripes running down there sides ith yellow spots and designs in between the two main yellow lines. They have tufts of sparse hairs coming from stripes of redish orange "dashes" that run perpendicular to the yellow stripes. With red eyes, these guys don't have many more identifying features. About a week ago I noticed a lot of Fall Webworms around the yard but they were much smaller and looked different, could they have matured to look like these? While trying to ID the bugs I also considered the Gypsy Moth, but I don't think that's right.

maybe Acronicta oblinita
but wait for an expert

I think you're right
These guys look very similar to the Acronicta oblinita, commonly known as the Smeared Dagger Moth, or in this case the Smartweed Caterpillar.
