Coleophora? -
Coleophora kearfottella
Brighton, Monroe County, New York, USA
July 6, 2014
Size: 9 mm wingspan
The general shape and appearance of this moth say "Coleophora" to me. However, I haven't seen any photos with similar colors and markings.

Re: Moved to Coleophora kearfottella
Hmm. It would be cool to have the first photos of an adult for BugGuide.net. However, none of the photos at BOLD have the dark spot on the forewing that is visible on the left side on the dorsal photo and on the right side on the lateral photo. Also, this spot is not mentioned in the original description.

Hmmm
I know this sounds stupid but is there a chance that one of the photos is flipped?
I assumed that this was damage not realizing it was done on both sides. If one of the images were flipped, it would explain it. If not, I'm inclined to bump it back up.

Hmmm
Brilliant, not stupid. As a matter of fact, the lateral photo was flipped so that the moth would be in a head up view. I didn't realize that doing this would make the left side appear to be on the right. Both of the unflipped photos show the dark spot on the left side. They are Canon RAW files. I could send you the originals if you want them. In the future, I will try to remember to rotate photos 180° rather than flipping them vertically.

No Problem
Glad it got sorted out. It is still a tentative ID.
