Southern unstriped scorpion - Vaejovis carolinianus

Southern unstriped scorpion - Vaejovis carolinianus
Fulton County, Georgia, USA
July 14, 2014
This is what I found, alive, at the foot of my bed, on the carpet, when I got up. Without glasses and not immediately recognizing the shape, I took my hand and brushed it away from the bed. Only then did I realize how lucky I was that I hadn't been stung. I got a wad of tissues and killed it, since with my mortal allergy to bee stings—and I don't know about scorpion stings—live scorpions are not something I want anywhere in my house, let alone near my bed. Luckily for the record, I didn't smoosh it, so I took it over to the toilet tank top and took these shots before sending it to its watery end.
