Curly Woodlouse? - Armadillidium nasatum

Curly Woodlouse? - Armadillidium nasatum
Andelot Farm, Worton, Kent County, Maryland, USA
June 7, 2014

I didn't notice before, but you can actually see the small nasal projection on the front of the head that distinguishes this species from A. vulgare. Color and pattern seem to match too.

Oh!
Thanks! I can't see it, but I don't know what to look for - I'm glad you were able to! :)

Moved from Armadillidium.

Armadillidium sp.
This is a pillbug in the genus Armadillidium. You can see clearly in this photo that the uropods are shorter than the last segment of the abdomen, indicating the family Armadillidiidae.

New terminology to me -
thanks for telling me what to pay attention to! :) I had to look at diagrams online just now to even know what constitutes the abdomen on one of these; now I know. But the last segment of it looks pretty short to me - are you looking at the side of it?

Compare to Porcellio spp.
Take a look at the uropods of some of the Porcellio pictured on the site - they extend well past the end of the abdomen!

Oh, I see!
Thanks! :)
