Braconid Wasp - Meteorus - female

Braconid Wasp - Meteorus - Female
Walpole, Lincoln County, Maine, USA
July 22, 2014
Size: about 0.75 cm in length
while rearing a larva of Herpetogramma theseusalis, I noticed red blotches just under the skin. The next day an ovoid pupa was present in the vial with the dead caterpillar. This is the guy who emerged.

Meteorus confirmed by Dr. Paul Marsh.

I am assuming this to be Meteorus, and the ovoid "pupa" sounds like a Meteorus cocoon. Compare:

Note that, in contrast to the TV ad for State Farm auto insurance, this "guy" is a female. What I don't find is records for Meteorus from Herpetogramma theseusalis, but, looking under Meteorus associates, I did find a record for Herpetogramma licarsisalis, which evidently isn't known from the continental USA.

Moved from Ichneumon Wasps.

Thanks!
Yes, the cocoon looked very similar to that (I uploaded a picture of it). I've had three of these appear in a group of 60 H. theseusalis so far. Thanks for the help!
