Thanks!
Thanks so much, Kelsey. I apologize for the quality of the photos. I think that the tibial colour and darkened crossveins indicate
pictipennis
if I interpret the key correctly, but that may be just wishful thinking. In any case, it's a new genus for New Brunswick at BugGuide. Thanks again!

Orthonevra pictipennis
! The single eye stripe points towards the
pictipennis
species group. From there, Sedman 1966 has a key to the four species in North America, but - here's the catch - it's a bit backwards; if you compare it to the pictures from Jeff Skevington, there is disagreement about which pair of
pictipennis/weemsi
and
pulchella/anniae
has the clouded wing veins... in Sedman's key he says that
pulchella/anniae
have clouded crossveins, but in the text of the paper he describes
weemsi
as a new species with clouded crossveins, and the wings on
pulchella
as hyaline. So he got the first couplet backwards in the actual key.
So, one of
pictipennis/weemsi
. If the tibiae are black medially (which they seem to be from this picture), then it's
pictipennis
.
Glad we agree!
