Large Black Fly with Orange Abdominal patches - Mydas clavatus

Large Black Fly with Orange Abdominal patches - Mydas clavatus
Beavercreek, Greene County, Ohio, USA
July 25, 2014
Very large fly, seen crawling around in my potato patch, under the leaves of potatoes and weeds, acting as if it were searching for something among the composted wood chip mulch. I watched it for three minutes, only getting a few poor photos as it moved constantly under cover. When it spotted me, it "glared" at me, then flew away and out of sight.
