Moved
The "swarm" was a brood-robbing party by these slavemaker ants. They are good at this behavior, but not at most regular ant work, so they steal (usually) pupae of other Formica spp. to build a worker force. If you had found their nest, you would have noted two differently colored ants co-inhabiting it.
