Physoconops brachyrhynchus? - Physoconops excisus - female

Physoconops brachyrhynchus? - Physoconops excisus - Female
Fort Polk, Vernon Parish, Louisiana, USA
July 15, 2008
Please correct me if I have misidentified the species

Moved
Moved from Conopinae.

Gene...this dark form of P. excisus does appear very similar to P. brachyrhynchus. But that species has a relatively small theca, whereas this individual have a very large theca...consistent with P. excisus. It also has a thin pollinose stripe along the posterior edge of the vertex, which definitely separates P. excisus from P. brachyrhynchus, the latter lacking such a "post-vertical pollinose stripe".

Thank you for the
exlanation
