Macreurops longicollis - Phyconomus marinus

Macreurops longicollis - Phyconomus marinus
Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County, California, USA
July 30, 2014
Size: ~3-4mm
Found under seaweed along the beach. I have no idea what family this is, and I'm away from my microscope and American Beetles to try and key it out. My only guess is something in Cucujoidea, maybe Monotomidae

Actually
This is Phyconomus marinus - commonly found under seaweed along the Pacific coastline of North America. You can tell because the elytral punctation is not in regular rows. Also Macreurops longicollis has a much longer pronotum.

good call, nice bug -- thanks!

Better photo
Once I point it and get my imaging setup back together, I'll take a better photo of it.
