Hyperaspis trifurcata

Hyperaspis trifurcata
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 29, 2014
With Cochineal on the fruit (tuna) of a Prickly-Pear (Opuntia littoralis) (or possibly an O. littoralis x ficus-indica hybrid) in coastal sage scrub at the Claremont Colleges' Bernard Field Station. I took a photo of the Cochineal and only realized later that the beetle was also in the photo.

Although the photo quality is poor, I'm leaving it here for the time being as it represents the first post from California for July and the first outside of Orange County. A better photo from August at the same location is here.
