Guessing it's a psocid - Amphigerontia petiolata

Guessing it's a psocid - Amphigerontia petiolata
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
July 28, 2014
Size: ~4.5mm to wingtips
Will we be able to do anything with this guy from this angle, or is it hopeless?? H2030 moth night

Fascinating - looks just like it
Not surprisingly - we weren't even close!! Will have to look at these guys more often.

Amphigerontia sp., probably A. petiolata --det. E.L. Mockford
Moved from Psocinae.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

A bit tricky...
The head markings are not right for M. novaescotiae. The closest in my opinion is Indiopsocus bisignatus but without a close up look I can't be sure. The vertex markings are right, the range is right and the darker hue on the abdomen could be due partly to dark marking on the forewing. . The Wizard of Normal is in Arizona right now. I wonder if he could make a definite ID?

thanks Diane
i'll include it in the next batch to be submitted to the WoN

We had skipped past that one
because the top of the head looked wrong to us. We had been staring at Hyalopsocus and Indiopsocus, but realized we didn't have a clue what one even looks at to begin! Will keep staring and see if we figure something out.

i asked Diane to take a look
she would tell

Metylophorus novaescotiae?? very variable, very common
