Can this robber fly be identified down to the species level and sexed. Is there a basic way to sex flies ? Thanks for the help.

Really nice shot of Certurgus cruciatus. Sexually dimorphic in color.

Ceraturgus would be my guess:


 
Robber fly id.
Ken after your leed to Ceraturgus I went through the species and I believe this is a Ceraturgus cruciatus. If this is accurate this appears to be the first photo submit for Ohio. Thanks for the help Ken.
