Bot Fly larva - Cuterebra

Bot Fly larva - Cuterebra
Blackwood, Camden County, New Jersey, USA
August 9, 2014
Yesterday a stray cat showed up at my back door with several kittens. One of the kittens, about 5 weeks old, had a large wound on her face, which had the appearance of an extra eye. We managed to grab her and quickly take her to a local vet where she was diagnosed as having this rather large bot fly larva in her face. The larva was removed and given to me (with strict orders to kill it after I took some pics). The kitten seems to be recovering well while the bot fly larva is currently relaxing in a bath of isopropyl alcohol.

Aberrant infection
According to the Internet, cats are subject to opportunistic infections by rabbit bot flies in genus Cuterebra. This could be a Cuterebra larva.
