Fairly sure this is the right ID. In any case, it is the same subgenus (Desmoris, fulvus group). Anderson (1) states no biological information known. However, your observation matches the host plant information (Silphium perfoliatum) of MJ Hatfield's post.

intriguingly, this host, in connection with Smicronyx, is only mentioned for S. (Desmoris) floridanus in(1); your bug is not in that subgenus, but, on the other hand, some smicros seem not to be too picky as it comes to the composite hosts
