Spider makes itself at home

Spider makes itself at home
Irvine, Orange County, California, USA
March 6, 2007
Another case of it's-so-familiar-why-shoot-it? Well, I did. These critters are often found in homes here, often in back of a door, just above the floor. I call them "Walendas" because they do sort of a jerky "high wire dance" when startled.

Looks like
a Cellar Spider in the Family Pholcidae. The loooooong legs are indication enough, but also, gyrating behavior when disturbed is typical.

California seems to be in the middle of a turf war between
the common Cellar Spider, Pholcus phalangioides, and
the Marbled Cellar Spider, Holocnemus pluchei, with no doubt other species potentially entering the fray. But someone else will have to take the ID the rest of the way- I've reached the limits of my meager knowledge.

Thanks, Chuck
That's certainly it. Will research a bit more now.
