San Diego, California, USA
August 11, 2014
Size: About the size of a dime.
Hello, I live in San Diego, Ca. And i've been finding A LOT of different types of spiders in my home... ( brown widows, yellow sac, even brown recluses!) But, I have no ideal what type of spider this is or could be... It's about the size of a dime.. and was caught in a spider trap behind my toilet this morning. It's an orange brown /red color with a dark gray /black butt. It also has huge fangs that almost make it look like a cute mustache! Lol... Super curious to what this could be! Thanks for your help! -Sara

Prodidomus rufus:

Rare find! Moving to Araneae for the other editors to see.

Thanks! That's super cool! Do
Thanks! That's super cool! Do you know if they're venomous? I think this one has baby eggs on its back side. 0.o

I think the "eggs" ...
you're seeing are actually the spider's spinnerets.

There aren't...
...any eggs on its back. Those are just hairs used for protection and for sensing the environment.

Spiders are not poisonous because poison has to be injested while venom injected. Spiders inject venom via their fangs so they are venomous. Most spiders, including this species, is venomous; however, the venom is not medically significant or dangerous.
