Very unusual moth - Schizura ipomaeae
Morristown, Shelby County, Indiana, USA
August 7, 2014
Size: app. 1" long
Extremely unusual moth both in shape & posture, Probably easily recognizable by those that have seen one before. Found on a lit front porch, but remeained there until later the following night (even there during the day).

Schizura ipomoeae
Moved from ID Request.

Nice!

I should have known....
Not too long ago I found one of the caterpillars of this species on a white oak (Quercus alba) and was able to narrow it down. Now I guess that maybe I need to start looking for the adults once I find a caterpillar! Thanks for the help in identifying it... it should be much easier to ID one now that I have seen one!
One last question... is this a mating posture? I have seen several pictures on the MPG site where they are not raised up in the air like this.
