oak species?
Do you know if this was valley oak (
Quercus lobata
)? Also, do you remember if the gall had any fuzz on it at all?
The image is a little blurry, but the gall looks smooth to me (no fuzz), and your other gall image was from valley oak. Assuming this was a white oak of some sort, my guess is that this is a small and young
Andricus quercuscalifornicus
gall. Usually by July they are bigger than this one appears to be, but not always. Anyway, you may want to have a look at
A. quercuscalifornicus
and see what you think.
