Underwater Swimmer

Underwater Swimmer
Eastern Shore County, Virginia, USA
August 12, 2014
Size: 8mm
It is certainly not his native habitat but this specimen was found swimming underwater in our swimming pool. He does not walk on land very well. Could he have flown to get into the pool?

Family Corixidae, probably (if your measurement is correct) a Hesperocorixa (although could be a Sigara) - but I can't be sure because your photo does not show the diagnostic characters. And yes, they do fly ...

Thank you so much, J.H.
