Male spider - Araniella displicata - male

Male spider - Araniella displicata - Male
Rowan County, North Carolina, USA
May 19, 2014
Crawling along deck rail in late afternoon. I think this is a male orb weaver of some sort, but still new to spider ID, so any help is appreciated.

Was it small?
Araniella displicata?

That was it!
Definitely a six spotted orb weaver. Once I knew what features to look for… it was clear. Thanks again!

Yes
It was small - I didn't get a chance to measure it, but I would say based on measures of other spiders (and memory) it was no larger than 8-10 mm. Your image looks like a really good match. I'll go check out the guide pages for that species. Thanks!
