Identification

Cryptopidae: ocelli absent; 21 pairs of legs & pedal segments. Theatops: caudal legs enlarged, heavily sclerotized, forcipulate; ultimate segment longer than any of the others.

Range

se. US + sw. US (AZ and parts of adjacent states); Mexico (map)(1); the more widespread of the 2 spp. occurring east of the Mississippi River
