orange-tan teneb larva

orange-tan teneb larva
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
March 1, 2007
Size: 29 - 30 mm
Found in soft, rotting wood beneath bark on standing pine. This is the typical habitat for larvae that look like this in my experience, whatever the tree species. I think there are a number of tenebrionid species whose larvae resemble this one. There must be details that would permit distinguishing between them so I have taken a few closeups to study toward that end.
