Separation
Does californicum always have the brownish area on the dorsal? My katydid did not have any in this area.

According to comments on
this image
, the stridulatory area is always green on rhombifolium, and brown on californicum. Apparently the songs are distinct, so you can take a look
here
, and see if either of those songs sound familiar.

Ah thanks
Rhombifolium sounds more familiar -- heard that sound when I was walking last night for sure -- though it was a while back this image was taken.
The cricket was singing, and dorsally there was no brown colouring at all so it is probably safely put in rhombifolium?
