I have no clue what this could be. Any guesses? They seem to prefer hanging out on my aster. Thanks.

Another guess
Aetole genus with the upright hindlegs. Probably bella species since tripunctella has orange abdomen but very similar and host plant is four o'clocks.

and that is all this is, have a look at Species Euclemensia bassettella - Kermes Scale Moth - Hodges#1467, and see if it is like the ones you see there. . Hopefully an expert can confirm for us.

 
Genus Aetole
Mea culpa! Another genus not listed in my moth book (those hindlegs did worry me, but I thought it may be just a mating position) - thank goodness for the expert advice.

Thanks for all the input, folks.

These moths always have their hind legs up when I see then, even when they're not mating. I've been stalking them for a month in my garden, and they always look like this. Only in the last two days have I seen any mating behavior.
