A guess
Camponotus nearticus - my guess is based mostly on the line of hairs on the gaster you can see here, along with general appearance. (Pretty sure it's a Camponotus sp. of some variety - http://www.antweb.org/images.do?genus=camponotus&species=nearcticus&rank=species&project=southcarolinaants are the ones known in your area)

That's almost the best I can do, too, though I do see some bristles behind the mandible insertions, so more likely C*caryae. Lateral view and body length, in addition to this nice head shot, generally help with ant ID.
